Common Bond, Pinks Pizza, Dish Society and more will soon open in the city's darling transportation hub.
If you can briefly forget the Great Southwest Airlines Meltdown of 2022, you may remember that William P. Hobby Airport is the darling of Houston's aerial transportation hubs. Small but mighty, HOU is typically a breeze to fly in and out of—especially compared to its messy cousin to the north—and its single terminal is arguably the more ideal spot to enjoy the delightful performances of the Houston airport system's Harmony in the Air.
One thing George Bush Intercontinental has over Hobby is its many dining options. But soon, more will come to HOU that could rival IAH's offerings.
Travelers will be delighted to find a location of Common Bond, the beloved Houston bakery that has taken over the city in recent years with expansions in several neighborhoods, including their convenient drive-thru Common Bond On-the-Go. Pinks Pizza, a super-popular local chain for comfort-food pies and slices, is also slated to appear at Hobby.
Sit-down restaurants The Rustic and Dish Society, both with a few locations in Texas already, will enjoy prime spots at the airport, as will Fat Cat Creamery, a local favorite for ice cream. The Rustic's first airport location will even feature performances, in keeping with the live music it offers in downtown Houston.
This is all part of a new $334 million contract between the City of Houston and LaTrelle's, the Houston-based company that owns and operates franchises in major airports across the U.S. It all started with LaTrelle's Bakery, which opened in 1985 in Hobby Airport.
LaTrelle will take over 17,000 square feet of restaurant space, where they'll also incorporate works from local artists. On top of local brands, national chains will move in too, such as Dunkin', Wendy's, Peet's Coffee and Jersey Mike's.
Unfortunately, travelers will have to wait about two years for construction to be complete. Renovations will begin later in 2023 – in phases, so existing dining options will remain interrupted.
In the meantime, Willy P. will continue to enjoy the honor of being the first and only 5-Star airport in North America, according to Skytrax's rating system.
